Walking opportunities are endless - there being so many different types and nature of walks around the Borders. The area can offer strolls along the banks of the Tweed through to the all day treks throughout the region and at nearby Keilder Forest. Guided walking tours are available as well as many historical walks around Border towns, houses and the ancient Roman Fort at Trimontium.For those wanting to do parts of recognised long distance walks there are sections close at hand on the: For the hill walker there are numerous options around the local Eildon Hills, in the Cheviot Hills, and on Rubers Law. There is a walking festival in the Borders in September of each year.

Fishing on the Rivers Tweed and Teviot - famous for Salmon. Although you may not have a permit for these there are other rivers, lochs and reservoirs where the visitor can get access to wonderful fishing opportunities. We will be able to advise you on locations and availability.
Golf is available to the visitor in Melrose and close by in Galashiels and St Boswells as well as the many courses throughout the region. The Borders has two Championship courses at Cardrona and Roxburghe. You will never be far away from either an 18 hole or 9 hole course, and you may be able to benefit from the well known "Freedom of the Fairways" ticket for either 3 or 5 days. The pass will allow you to play any of the 14 course in the scheme, from Roxburgh through to Eyemouth, Hawick to Peebles.
The Cyclist is also well catered for with the maze of quiet roads that criss cross between the
sleepy border towns. Enjoy the Cycling Festival in June. For the mountain biker the famous
Glentree centre is only 25 minutes away.
Within the surrounding area there is an abundance of large stately homes and historical border peel towers all worth a visit.
